A design to give a speaker that is absolute phase linear and time coherent (an absolute point source) and suitable for various listening positions and distance.
The performance of many coaxial speaker was compromised by insufficient high frequency response, lack of bass tightness.
Recognizing constrains of a conventional point source design, Sound Mechanics engineers have spent many years in developing a different approach. The result is essentially a 6 1/2"coaxial unit housed in a special 7 litres compact enclosure with a patented wave guide port. Mechanical phase linear and time coherence are achieved through the deployment of a radical 2nd order serial two-way crossover. The serial crossover not only presents a constant impedance load to the power amplifier, it also produces continuous in-phase signals during frequency and phase variations for the tweeter and woofer. The M7 is probably the first commercially produced point source speaker with both mechanical and electrical phase linearity. The components and internal wires of the M7 are the usual high performance/low tolerance parts specially selected or developed by Sound Mechanics.
